Recommendations for Laundering Looped Wet Mops & Carpet Cleaning Bonnets

 

Laundering Wet Mops

The following procedure for machine washing soiled looped end wet mops will assure maximum performance and longevity:

 

Wash Cycle: Wash mop head in warm (not exceeding 160 degrees F) soapy or detergent water at low machine speed. Do not exceed manufacturers recommendations for detergent levels.
Centrifugal Extraction: Bring to full speed for 1 to 2 minutes and release.
Hydraulic Extraction: 250 PSI pressure for 3 minutes and release.
Drying: Tumble at 120-160 degrees until dry.

Longevity Tips

Careful initial processing is essential for maximum mop head life. All new mops should be processed separately, if possible, and overloaded 25 – 50% by weight. The “break” operation should be reduced by 3/4, and maximum water temperature (160F) used. Rinses should be at a low level and the final two rinses should be with cold water.

 

Notes:

  1. The final rinse water should be tested to determine the amount of residual alkali. If level is too high, an additional rinse is required.
  2. To insure total removal of excess alkali, souring may be desired. This should be done according to the recommendation of the supplier of the souring chemical.
  3. All of the processing temperatures are very critical. High washing and drying temperatures can severely damage the fibers.

Laundering Carpet Bonnets

AcidPre-Soak: Although not always necessary, a pre-soak may prove beneficial, as it will aid to emulsify and loosen soils from the fibers prior to washing. Soak bonnet for 10 minutes in hot soapy water.
Wash Cycle: Wash bonnets in warm (not exceeding 140 degrees F) soapy or detergent water at low machine speed. Do not exceed manufacturer’s recommendations for detergent levels.

Strategically place bonnets in the drum that will evenly distribute the weight in the drum

i.e. at 12, 3, 6 & 9 o’clock positions. This applies only to top load machines.

 

Centrifugal Extraction: Bring to full speed for 1 to 2 minutes and release.
Hydraulic Extraction: 250 PSI pressure for 3 minutes and release.
Drying: Remove head from washing bag and tumble in dryer (not exceeding 140 degrees F) until dry. Excessive temperatures and drying times will cause rapid deterioration. Tumble at 140 degrees until dry.
