How To Remove Soot Stains From Carpet

Steps and Procedures

  1. Vacuum carpet surface using a canister vacuum and hose (do not use an upright type of vacuum with a rotating brush this only spreads the stain). Using the hose or hose end, gently work from the outer perimeter of the stain towards the center. Effectively reducing the diameter and eliminating the likelihood of spreading the stain. *Never use water to clean toner or soot from carpet because it only spreads and imbeds the stain.
  2. Apply Citrus Spotter (Grease, Tar, Adhesive Remover) sparingly to the center of the affected area. Allow 5-10 minutes dwell time. PRECAUTION: Pre-test in an inconspicuous area.
  3. Blot thoroughly using a clean white terry cloth towel or absorbent blotting material. Continue shifting to clean dry areas of towel applying downward pressure.
  4. Rinse with COLD water to neutralize.
  5. Blot thoroughly using a clean white terry cloth towel or absorbent blotting material. Continue shifting to clean dry areas of towel applying downward pressure.
  6. Get The Spot Dry – Dry the area immediately using a circular fan or hair dryer (no heat) to prevent wicking. Repeat steps if necessary.
