What Size Liner Do I Need for My Trash Can?

Commercial can liner sizes are expressed in two numbers (e.g., 33″ x 40″). The first number represents the opening size, and the second is the height of the liner.

To find the correct size liner:

1. Measure the can’s circumference.
2. Measure its height.
3. Match your container to the size chart in the PDF guide to find the best fit.

How to Calculate Trash Bag Size

Bag Width

To calculate the proper width for your trash liner:

• Round containers: Divide the circumference by 2.
• Square/rectangular containers: Add up all four sides and divide by 2.

Bag Length

For both round and square containers:

• Add the height of the container.
• Add 4-5 inches for overhang.

Choosing the Right Trash Can Liner

Linear Low-Density Can Liners (LLD)

Best for sharper objects and heavy-duty transport. These liners have excellent resistance to punctures and tearing.

The strength of a trash can liner isn’t just about thickness—it depends on the quality of the material.

Thickness Measurements

• Mil: One-thousandth of an inch (.001″). Can liners range from .35 to 4.0 mils.
• Micron: 1,000 microns (M) = 1mm. Can liners range from 5 to 24 microns.
